Privacy
Fill or Wait does not collect personal information. There is no account to create, no form to fill in and nothing to sign up for.
What we store about you
Nothing. The site has no accounts, no sign in, no comments and no contact form, so there is nothing for us to keep. You can read every page without telling us anything about yourself. Your browser keeps one small setting of its own, which is described below.
Cookies and tracking
This site sets no cookies. It runs no analytics, no advertising and no tracking scripts, so we build no picture of you and pass nothing about you to anyone. One third party does see your visit, because a page loads a typeface from them. That is described below.
The one thing your browser remembers
When you pick a fuel, your browser saves which one so the page opens on it next time. That is the only preference this site stores on your device. The saved setting does not reach us, and it is not used to recognise you or to link one visit to another. Clearing your browsing data removes it.
What a page loads
The page loads these resources.
- The forecast data, site manifest and brand images, which come from this site.
- The Nunito typeface, which comes from Google Fonts. That means Google receives your IP address and browser details when a page loads, because that is how the font is delivered. We ask Google for nothing else and receive nothing back.
Sharing a forecast
The share image is created in your browser. When you choose to share, your device passes the forecast image and message to the app you select. We do not upload the image or record who you share it with.
Download image saves a copy on your device. Copy text writes the forecast message and link to your clipboard. We do not read your clipboard.
Server logs
Whoever hosts this site keeps its own standard record of requests, which usually includes IP addresses and which pages were served. Those records belong to the host and exist to run and protect the site. We do not use them to build a picture of individual visitors.
The Android app
The Fill or Wait app for Android collects nothing that identifies you either. It has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking.
The app downloads the day's forecast from this site over an encrypted connection. That request reaches the host with your IP address and the app's version, and the host's records described above apply to it. While a Fill or Wait widget is on your home screen, or notifications are on for a fuel, the app also downloads the forecast in the background about every four hours, so the widget stays current and the app can tell you when a call changes. Removing the last widget and turning notifications off for every fuel stops this.
The app keeps these things on your phone, and none of them are sent to us:
- The fuel you last picked, so the app opens on it next time.
- The fuel you chose for each widget that shows a single fuel.
- The latest forecast, so the app and widgets have something to show offline.
- The fuels you follow for notifications, and the last call the app told you about for each, so it only alerts you when that call changes.
None of this is copied into your phone's backups. Removing a widget deletes the fuel chosen for it. Clearing the app's storage in your phone's settings, or uninstalling the app, deletes the rest. We keep nothing about you, so there is nothing for us to delete.
Notifications. If you turn on notifications for a fuel, the app also registers with Firebase Cloud Messaging, Google's service for delivering app notifications, so alerts arrive sooner. Firebase gives this copy of the app a random ID and notes which fuels it follows, and Google uses that only to deliver the alerts. We keep no list of phones. Firebase removes registrations that go unused for 270 days. Nothing is sent to Firebase until you turn notifications on.
Delete notification data
To delete the notification data for this copy of the app, open Settings in Fill or Wait and turn off every fuel under Notifications. When the last fuel is turned off, the app asks Firebase to delete its random installation ID and its notification topic registrations. Those are the only notification data held outside your phone.
Google says data tied to the deleted ID is removed from Firebase's live and backup systems within 180 days. Fill or Wait keeps no copy. The forecast and preferences kept on your phone are not part of Firebase and remain until you clear the app's storage or uninstall it.
Share Forecast draws the forecast image on your phone and passes the image and message to the app you select. We do not upload the image or record who you share it with.
Where the forecasts come from
The forecasts are built from published fuel price and energy market data. None of that data is about you, and nothing about your visit goes into it.
